There is a lot of information on 'Therapy,' and also lots of opinion on it as well. Here are my thoughts on how I believe Therapy can work for you.

Get clear on your 'Why?'

What are you seeking from Therapy? You don't need to know the details, just the headline, and by the way, this can evolve as the therapy journey progresses, we just need a starting point to begin at.

Make sure you 'Why' is yours

Choose therapy to serve you, your healing, your comfort, your growth, and not to keep someone else feeling comfortable.

Do your research

Absolutely get curious! Use Social media and online platforms as signposts only, and know that reading about therapy is not enough. The therapy experience is personal, nuanced, and Social media is not a substitute.

Make sure you're aligned with your therapist

Before committing to a therapist, make sure what they are offering, aligns with what you are seeking. Ask to have a discovery call with them; do you like their tone? Are they able to offer the availability you want? Do they offer the delivery format you want for sessions? Are they trained in and experienced in, supporting what you are seeking support for?

Make it a commitment

Therapy is a commitment. A commitment of your time, your energy, your resources, your mind, your presence, and your willingness to want to engage on a journey of Self-discovery.

Be consistent

Just like any relationship, the therapeutic relationship takes dedicated time and energy. Building a safe, nurturing, supportive and inspiring rapport, requires consistently showing up on every level from both parties.

Carry on in-between sessions

The important part happens in-between sessions, outside of the therapy space. This is where integration happens. The sessions are a safe container for healing and growth, and the real work is embodying and living that growth in life.

Therapy isn't a 'fix'

We may find ourselves misaligned and/or under-resourced, but no one is broken, therefore, no one needs fixing. Therapy offers a space to nourish Self, discover and create alignment, it is about empowering you and not diagnosing you.

Important to note; I wrote this from the context of choosing to seek out therapy. There are times when a therapeutic intervention may be needed in crisis, and engaging in therapy might not feel like a personal 'choice' under those circumstances. My hope is always, that each pathway leads back to a place where personal choice can be restored.
